I am a college student at Emory University. I aced the writing portion of the SAT exam and I want you to too. I did not have any tutoring. Rather, I found that doing lots of practice problems was much easier! In fact, all you need to do for the writing portion is determine which rules the SAT is testing you on. For example, sometimes the SAT is trying to see if you know that verb must be plural if the noun is plural.

Let’s try the following example:

The value of the soccer ball is high, especially if the signature on it are taken into account. No error

A) value

B) especially

C) are

D) No error

What do you think the answer might be? First off, always consider option D, no error, as the last answer you look at. The SAT often tries to trick students by placing A is the right answers on the exam. Rather, look at all the answers before you just pick the first one.So instead of looking at A or D, always look at option C. In this case our option C is the word are.

Are is the correct answer because the word signature is singular.

You would say:

The value of the soccer ball is high, especially if the signature on it IS taken into account. No error

So to review:

The signature is taken into account.

The signatures are taken into account.

Always make sure the word is singular if the verb tense is also singular, the same goes for plural!
